A killer acoustic set happens in Vegas.
CSI will have a hard time figuring this one out. CBS should license this episode. *lol*
Las Vegas, NV
warning: crazy fangirl incoherent thoughts, flailing hard guaranteed, quite a bit of photos, again VERY LONG post with details of what happened before and after the show for my memory’s sake, proceed at your own risk~
I didn’t manage to take a picture of the entire band from where I stood, so this will have to do. Got SkibBlock by DCook all afternoon, this was one of the two times I could actually SEE Andy (the other shot has huge Dave’s crotch as a foreground, umm.. OH MY NO CANNOT USE *lol*) and Kyle will hate me forever for this banner~ XD
previously: DAVID COOK MURDERS ME!!! series
After having a creepy Friday with Melody (so much of our plans to go home early and rest and get ready for Pet2011 day~), I thought nothing could get crazier.
I’m always wrong. LOLZ.
Saturday started out with clear sky but chilly. According to weather forecast, cloudy with sun but no rain. Melody picked me up at 9:30ish and OMG I FINALLY GOT TO MEET SELLA!! SHE’S SO PRETTY AND NOTHING LIKE AN OWL!
A hugh ass ice coffee, hilarious ‘Dear Diary’ recaps, and 45 minutes later, we arrived at the Sam Boyd Stadium in the middle of nowhere. *lol* Paid $8/person to get in, we didn’t bring dog food. There’s a bunch of fans at the stage already. We then realized: A) it’s kinda cold; B) we didn’t even bring anything to save our spot (ie: blankets). Some fans are so well equipped; they came with picnic gear! Anyway, our spot was about 10 feet away from the stage and Melody finally found some blankets/throws for us. YAY~
Andy Grammer (with the -er, according to him) was the first performer of the day, he came out with his acoustic guitar and he’s AMAZING. OMG I LIKE HIM A LOT. I believe his EP is coming out on 4/12, so check it out on iTunes, peeps! #PromoTime
I tested my camera for the first time during Andy’s set. Truth be told, I love buying new cameras before going to David Cook concerts so I can fumble with settings and mentally kick myself for not reading manuals LOLZ #IAmCrazy
A little down time with dog contests. Melody and Sella went to talk to Andy and became BFFs with him. The weather was getting much colder with giant clouds and some sprinkles. Uh oh. Sella wandered off for food, I ran to get another throw blanket to keep me from freezing to death.
Some kids tried to sneak in front while we were waiting for Fefe Dobson. #NoShame We moved up a little closer to the stage to prevent intruders. *lol* Okay kids. If you ever want to be up front; tell your daddy to bring you to the fair early. Cutting in front sucks. Stepping over someone’s stuff/head sucks more. But whatever, they left after Fefe performed.
Anyway; things got intense after Fefe Dobson’s (very short, she’s kinda sick) set, everyone was on their feet protecting their ground *lol* Dave did a little interview thing in the tent area next to the stage, about 30-35 feet away. I took this shot from where I stood before I tried to move closer, but failed. #LuckyShotIsLucky #ILoveMyCamera #PaparazziFeeling #ThoseShades … *purrs*
Oh fanboy!DCook~ ♥
Familiar faces came on stage to set up for DCook’s set. What cracked me up was their picks came on strips of masking tapes and the roadies attached it to the mic stands. Obviously that one particular damn lucky mic stand didn’t get to come to this show~
These were Neal’s! I saw the blue color so I zoomed in to see if there’s anything written on it and YES! I wanted one of these “so it goes” picks so hard! (
wondered whose handwriting this was? kinda girly~ Nevermind, it’s NT’s, thanks Megan!)
And a mandatory shot of lefty-righty twin guitars. ♥ awwww… kakkoii desu ne~
While waiting for the stage to be ready, Andrew, Dave’s dog sitter, brought Dublin up on stage right to wave to the fans *lol* Also, all of a sudden, the weather cleared up, switching from cloudy and rain to sunny and warm right before the show. I had to quote DC from Salem concert where it was raining like hell before the show but we had a nice clear sky during concert time: “the music god has smiled on us”. The music god sure loves you, Mr. Cook. :)
Finally the Mix 94.1 DJs came on stage to announce the next performer *SCREAMS* IT’S TIME!!! The guys walked on stage. OMG NEAL~ He was looking at Dave testing his guitar and just laughed (probably some in-ear inside joke again) ♥ #WizardOrSamurai?
I MISSED THEIR CONCERT SO MUCH. I had a nervous feeling all day leading up to this moment. Just seeing them on stage again, seriously, near vomcry.
BTW, last month when they announced the show, and I realized it was an ACOUSTIC performance, I was thinking about Dave & Neal on guitars. And that’s it. I had not expected the entire band at all until Andy tweeted about coming to LV last week. This was absolutely PERFECT.
I Did It For You was the show opener~ Andy on keyboard and Dave & Neal on acoustic guitars.
OMG ACOUSTIC = AWESOMENESS!! I LOVE IT SO HARD. SO HARD SO HARD!
Oh how I missed this face.
This was my first time on Neal’s side of the stage so I was really excited~ :) All other tickets I’ve ever bought, I landed myself on Andy’s side every single time (love the one at Milwaukee when he made goofy face at my camera. and the one at Showbox didn’t count, I was right in the middle, very indecisive, indeed *lol*).
At the end of IDIFY, DC came over to say something to Neal, Neal turned to look at Kyle and this was one of my most favorite shots from this show. #LuckyShotCompletesMe
After this, I missed all awesome shot opportunities because I was busy looking like this → ♥__♥ at everything they did. LOLZ.
First banter was about studio. Said they’ve been in the studio working on another record and this was their first show in like… *pauses* Then Monty said “MONTHS” LOLZ Happy to be here, pimping Andy Grammer, Fefe Dobson and Train~ but in the mean time, we’re stuck with them for just a little bit
Um.. dude, you can play for 3 hours, I wouldn’t mind a single second. JSYK. :)
Up next, Mr. Sensitive! So. It. Goes.
PS >> I LOVE DC/NT SILENT COMMUNICATION SYSTEM.
DC checked in with fans in the back and upfront before moving on to Heroes!
I was a dork for acoustic Heroes since STAR Stage in 2009, so I flailed endlessly during this song. haha. Andy was back on guitar but still sitting. Still got SkibBlock by DCook :P Neal didn’t sing chorus.
Champagne Supernova insert! Kyle busted out his shaker~ and this was the other Kyle’s pix that I have. See, it’s either this one or the one I used on the banner! LOLZ
And Neal was giggling happily by the end of the song *runs*
After 3 songs, David introduced himself and the band. And the crew. And his tour manager. And Dublin (he’s so cute when he asked for his pup) and
his dog sitter Andrew . I was hoping Dubs would kiss him. *lol* Said we’d probably figured out by now they’re not professional at all, but (I quote) “damn it, we’re gonna have a good time, alright”. OH YEAH.
New cover! The Cars’ DRIVE! I LOVE THIS SONG!! OMG OMG OMG HOLY HOLY HOLY!
OMG DAVID’S VOICE.
Just the first verse “who’s gonna tell you when it’s too late“, and I was melted into a puddle of forever goo. ♥
Seriously, dead and sent to heaven by his voice. It’s so beautiful. PERFECT.
Then a dog barked. LOLZ. OMG. So funny. Dave was totally cracking up. So much that he had to insert “first time I had a dog barking at a concert, it’s awesome” during the song. XDD
BTW, Andy should have a piano concert or something, I love it when he plays piano~
Oh hi, Monty~ :)
After the song, DC commented: crazy intimate moment of the song.. professionalism~ LOLZ
Oh David Cook, WHY SO CUTE?!
Talked about the new records again, finishing it up, couldn’t wait to get it out. Thanked fans and Mix 94.1 for supporting/playing Come Back To Me.
Love, love, LOVE Andy’s vocals during this song. Very beautifully harmonized.
Melody was freaking out, vomcrying right next to me. It’s her favorite~ :)
Said that’s the one guitar trick he knew and he just ruined it ↑ xD
Talked about how he kept talking about the new records *lol* He wanted to share it with us *screamfest* but they (RCA?) wouldn’t let him yet. *awww sad faces on the field* BUT he said what if he weren’t really paying attention to it *lol oh DCook ILU* he’s going to play a new song from this new records: Paper Heart.
LOLZ I could totally hear the disappointed “awwwwww” from some fans that expected it to be The Last Goodbye xD
I loved this acoustic strip down way more that the full electric version he played last year. That one, I thought it was a bit, busy? I don’t know. Love it!
Two more songs and they’d get away for Train. The next one was going to be tough (OMG HE’S SO CUTE). Said they wanted to challenge themselves and try something a little outside of the box.
“This is our attempt. Sorry Adele”
HOLY. WHAT?! OMG!!
Sella totally lost it. LOLZ.
Rolling In The Deep cover! He started the opening chords and stopped then yelling for his capo. Johnny Metal came out with it and had a little cute interact with DC. He wanted it on his 2nd fret, but JM put it on the 3rd, and sliding it up instead *lol*
OK. Here we go! His “oh dear god” was soooooo adorable!! ♥ David Cook, you are my favorite.
OMG NEAL WAS SINGING CHORUS TOO. *flails* OMG OMG. I love his voice. I LOVE HIS VOICE. Neal’s and Andy’s voices blended so well together. Love it. LOVE IT HARD.
*claps claps claps* DCook, I’m sorry I took my hands down to take this picture.. :D
*a bunch of dead fangirls all over the stadium* DC did an awesome job with this cover! Everyone was having fun screaming their heads off. It was a BIG surprise. Definitely a huge challenge, and the guys pulled it off nicely! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! ♥
BTW, I saw some fierce discussions re: the missing verse and teleprompter. So ridiculous.
Last song, Light On~ DC asked if Andy’s ready *lol* Light On is actually one of my favorite concert songs. I think it’s fun with all the high notes and pauses and just the feel of it. In fact, I like every song he sings, even when I didn’t dig it at first, I’d dig it after a while. End of story. LOLZ.
DC: Thank you guys so much Las Vegas. Enjoy Train!
ME: DAVID COOK. NEAL TIEMANN. ANDY SKIB. MONTY ANDERSON. KYLE PEEK. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR THIS INCREDIBLE DAY. YOU GUYS ARE FANTASTIC AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH WHEN YOU MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TOGETHER. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU!!!
After the concert, we got in line for autographs. I OWED MY LIFE TO KRISTINA WHOM I JUST MET FOR THE FIRST TIME. THANK YOU SO MUCH SO MUCH SO MUCH. ♥
Melody went to talk to David first, and it was the most adorable conversation I’ve ever witnessed. Dave told her she’s his favorite and he was totally LOLZ.
Then Kristina talked to him about touring with Archie and doing a cover of his song. Dave said he didn’t know if he could do the song justice (aww come on~) but he’d talk to Archie. OMG~ :D
I HAD A SEMI-COHERENT CONVERSATION WITH DAVID COOK FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! *FLAILS* (all previous encounters were either “omg you’re amazing *freaks out*” or “hi can I get a bear hug?” LOLZ) Even though it started with him totally amused by me looking terrified before shrieking out “I LOVE YOU SO MUCH~” in the highest pitch possible
*MAJOR HEADDESKS* I MEANT TO SAY “I LOVE YOUR MUSIC SO MUCH”. Oh boy.. x__X”
me: *failed at life*
DC: what are those? *pointing at the envelope in my hands*
me: *shows him the wallpaper I printed out* I made this, and I’m wondering if you can sign it?
DC: sure! what’s your name?
DC: this is nice
me: they’re all your lyrics
DC: *takes a closer look* oh *pauses* have you twitpic-ed this before?
me: ((HOLY FLIPPING COW)) YES I DID
DC: I think I’ve seen it before, very nice~
me: ((IS DEAD BUT STILL STANDING)) REALLY?!
DC: hey, do you have another copy of this?
me: ((PANIC ATTACK)) umm nope *debating myself fast and hard whether or not I should give it to him and hunt him down at the next concert for an autograph instead* WHY AM I SO DUMB?! I HAVE ANOTHER COPY AT HOME WHY DID I NOT BRING THEM ALL WITH ME?! *internally wails*
DC: *probably notices how close I am to wailing out loud* you know what, can you twitpic it again? I’ll look out for it.
me: sure, I’ll do that!
DC: *hands me back the photo*
me: umm..can I have that one too *points at a stack of promo photos*
DC: *smiles* sure, here you go Sara
me: THANK YOU. SO MUCH. I can’t wait for your new album~
DC: me too. me too.
I stumbled off the line and died in a fangirl heaven. HOLY CRAP WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! I totally couldn’t communicate properly with anyone for the next 15 minutes. I was too far gone. I didn’t even know what Sella talked to him about. Probably something about Rolling in the Deep and vomit? LOLZ
DAVID COOK. WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?! ♥ YOU ARE FOREVER MY FAVORITE.
He’s so nice and sweet and awesome and fantastic.
He recognized my wallpaper. From Twitpic. HE RECOGNIZED MY WALLPAPER FROM TWITPIC. AND ASKED ME FOR A COPY. @$&)^@#$%&!@_!!!
OMG HE LOVES IT.
Must be the graphic designer in him.
All ridiculous amount of time I spent on photoshop. PAID OFF.
We were there creepily watching him signing autograph (oh, hi Dubs!) until he blew a kiss and left. Then we walked towards the exit, saw the bus, and just stayed there. LOLZ. Sella, Melody and I tweeted Neal and Andy to please come out and sign my wallpapers. We even took pictures of them and twitpic-ed them. I EVEN TWEETED MONTY TO KICKED THEM OUT OF THE BUS LOLZ I don’t know! My brain definitely had a short circuit after this David Cook encounter.
Train was on stage. Ohh a lot of people. LOLZ opening. Melody and Kristina watched. Sella and I totally ditched Train and walked back to the bus area. Sella saw Andy walked off the bus.
Instinct kicked in.
I RAN OUT THE EXIT.
Sella was like, WAIT! DON’T GO!!, but I was like, NOPE I’M GOING! *lol* I did get a stamp on my hand in case we need to get back inside though.
So I ran along the fence but could not locate Andy anywhere. I thought he’d probably watching Train from the side of the stage, so I was about to have a ‘hangs-head’ moment….
ANDY STEPPED OUT OFF ONE OF THOSE HONEY BUCKETS BACKSTAGE.
And I was like “ANDY!!!!” *waves like a total lunatic*
LOLZ DAMN MY TIMING. THIS WAS THE CREEPIEST THING I’VE EVER DONE. He must have thought I was insane.
So Andy smiled and walked over to the gate. HOLY. HE’S SO GORGEOUS. *___*
I showed Andy the wallpaper I made for him, told him they’re all MWK and To Have Heroes lyrics, and asked if he could autograph it. He did. OMG. (I was partially well-prepared, I brought my own silver sharpie! *lol*)
Then, I showed him the other one I had of Neal *lol* I asked if Neal was around. Andy said he’s not sure where Neal was but he’d tell him I was waiting (creepily) there. I thanked Andy and he walked back to the bus while I turned around and totally bouncing with Sella. OMG OMG OMG.
ANDY SKIB’S THE BEST. Less than a minute later, Neal got off the bus and walked over with his yellow backpack. NEALFINGTIEMANN WITH HIS YELLOW BACKPACK.
*FLAILS TO ETERNITY*
Neal came outside the gate and gave me a one-arm hug because I looked like I was going to faint *faints* I told him I love his backpack. WT* BRAIN?! *headbackpacks*
He lit a cig (of course, it’s a non smoking facility so he had to step outside *lol*), I presented him the picture, and told him about it. I even told him I made it purple to match his website. And his nail polish.
FAILED SARA. FAILED.
I SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM HOW MUCH I LOVE HIS WORDS AND HOW BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL THEY ARE. FAILED SO HARD *hangs head* This was definitely too much for me to handle in one day. WAY TOO MUCH.
AND I DREAMED ABOUT TELLING HIM THAT IF HE EVER NEEDED HELP WITH PHOTOSHOP, I WOULD ALWAYS BE AT HIS SERVICE!
Sella and I talked with Neal for a big while, he’s really nice and kind and genuine and cool I can’t even. He’s too amazing for words. The way he talked, I wanted to listen to him talk forever. He’s not as intimidating as he looked on stage. And his smile. HIS VOICE. His laugh was intoxicating too, BTW. *sighs*
NEAL TIEMANN, WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?! ♥ YOU’RE SO MAGICAL I WILL SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR UNICORN AND YOUR MUSIC FOREVER~
We told him how much we loved the show. I asked if there’s going to be any MWK show in the near future, preferably in LA since Tulsa was so hard to get to (haha) Neal said it’s hard for them too because of all the gear since they didn’t live there anymore LOLZ He said if there’s one, it’d be in LA (YAY!). I told him I’d totally hop on a plane from Seattle to LA for that. TMI, Sara, TMI.
I also asked him if I could have a picture with him *OMG DIES*
Then Melody arrived and had a very impressively coherent talk with Neal (I really do think she’s his favorite too *lol*) while Kyle, Andy and Monty came out to the limo. I waved at Andy and eventually BECKONED them to come over. ((DAMN IT SARA, WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE DOING-APPROPRIATE-THINGS PART OF YOUR BRAIN?! *headlimos*)). Took a picture with them, Sella had an awesome convo with Kyle, she was so hilarious I loved her so much. Then Dave came out and they left for the airport, according to Neal.
We stood there squealing our heads off with lots of hugging and vomcrying for a good 5-10 minutes before walking over to the parking lot.
Totally cracked up on way to and during dinner at Archi’s, a Thai restaurant. They’re not as authentic as advertised #HelloAThaiGirlRightHere~ *lol* but their food was very good.
Got home, downloaded all pix and mp3 to my macbook.
Andy replied to my earlier tweet.
*inserts squealing out loud moment* ANDY SKIB, WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?! ♥ Stop being so nice and kind and amazing because I might die. NO I LIED. PLEASE BE LIKE THIS FOREVER. I LOVE YOU AND YOUR MUSIC SO FRIGGIN’ MUCH.
I didn’t even know how I survived this day. My day was completely nutso. I LOVE IT.
ps1. I think the guys missed playing a show together. It’s not 100% smooth, we could see roadies walking around the stage fixing things up during the set, but they definitely did a great job as a team to successfully entertain their fans. Their acoustic set was friggin’ AWESOME.
ps2. DC is too much for my poor heart. ♥
ps3. I’m obsessed with Neal’s hand. You’ll see it in my future graphic.
ps4. biggest thanks to Melody for being the super gracious host. I LOVE YOU, GIRL.
ps5. Sella, you’re the most hilarious person I’ve known. And believe me, I knew a lot of them. You beat them all. I MISSED YOU AND YOUR FACE AND YOUR BEAR HUG SO MUCH. ILU.
ps6. Kristina. Without you, none of those crazy stuff after the concert would happen. I owe you my life. If you ever need a greyhound-buddy, let me know! ILU~
ps7. New camera worked well outdoor. I’m not sure about indoor, dark hall concert though. And I’m still kicking myself for not reading the manual. I mean I can operate it just fine, but I think I can do a better job at settings which will reduce amount of post processing? idk. I’ve never read manuals anyway. XD
ps9. If you’re still reading to this point, thank you! If you consider leaving a comment and make me happy, ILU! Or you can totally continue to be a blog creeper and I’ll forever know you by your IP address. No pressure. LOLZ.
